Wow! Today was an adventure to say the least. We overslept (of course) and awoke to tire trouble with Kayla's car and a spider bite on me! I originally thought that it was only a mosquito bite, brought to Colorado as a reminder of the Mississippi delta, but I was wrong! So we left the hotel and went straight to the doctor to get antibiotics and to the car shop to have Kayla's car looked at. All turned out to be okay and we hit the road around noon. During our trek across Texas we found the Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo. We parked alongside the interstate and walked to a field to see 8 Cadillacs buried halfway into the ground, covered in spray paint from the many people who had already visited them!
There were old spray paint cans on the ground, so we picked up a few and made our mark! :)
From there we traveled to Mosquero, New Mexico and instead of taking the interstate, we decided to hit the local highway and see some scenery. We stopped on the road to watch an isolated thunderstorm (complete with intense lightening) in the fields and to take a few pictures.
We finally made it to Colorado and took pictures with the state sign. Kayla, Mackenzie and I did this last time we drove through on our way to Wyoming. It is going to become our little tradition. We were incredibly excited to finally be in CO and to be closer to our new home. We stopped at Max's Restaurant outside of Pueblo, CO to eat dinner... Best comfort food ever! They had macaroni and cheese, and if you know me, that's like giving me a million dollars. :) We ran into a lot of rain right after this and decided to stop for the night in Colorado Springs.
Tomorrow we are going to stop in Fort Collins at the New Belgium brewery on our way to Jackson Hole, WY. We have friends living there that we haven't seen since March! The current plan is to stay with them for a couple of days, do some hiking and camping, and overall enjoy being back in the west!
We are LOVING the scenery and all of the small local towns. The people are beyond nice and helpful. I feel right at home here already. We got some amazing news today that we will soon be moving in with our delta friend, Elizabeth Anne. She has been so sweet and helpful to us and I can't wait to be living in Denver with her and Kayla!
I wasn't able to upload any photos tonight because the internet at our hotel has been hard to come by! I posted them in an album on Facebook instead and I promise to get them on here sometime tomorrow night when we stop again!
