Estes Park Adventure

Hey guys!  So this was definitely a memorable weekend for me.  Friday after work my friend, Katherine, came by the house and we got ready to go to a bar in town called Sancho's Broken Arrow.  This was no ordinary bar, as it was a Grateful Dead bar, covered floor to ceiling in paintings, posters, old car license plates sporting song lyrics and everything in between.  The ceiling tiles were individual paintings of anything you could think of from Jerry himself to the Rocky Mountains.  I LOVED this bar, to say the least.  Not only did they play all of the music that I loved, I got to hang out with my new friends and meet new people!

Saturday was a slow day and I spent most of the day at the house and relaxed a bit.  That night we went to Sancho's brother bar, Quixote's.  It looked almost identical to the other bar, but much bigger.  It houses 3 stages, one being outside, and the main stage inside.  I stuck around long enough to hear Shakedown Street, a Grateful Dead cover band, and headed home early because we were planning to hike the next day.

This morning Kari Ann, Katherine, and I woke up and got dressed and ready to head to Estes Park, about an hour and a half away, to do some hiking.  When we arrived into town they were having the Elk Festival in the square and the vendors covered every sidewalk.  Even though we wanted to stop, hiking was set in our minds so we continued to the Rocky Mountain National Park and set about our adventure.  We drove about 45 minutes into the mountains (missed our turn) and ended up at the very top overlooking our entire journey.  I'm really glad that we ended up going that far because the views were breathtaking and it gave us a rush to be up so high into the mountains.  When we realized that we were not on the right path we retraced our steps and ended up back at the entrance where the original turn was.  We drove to Bear Lake, which was the trail head for many different hikes.  We decided that since it was getting late and we only had enough time for one hike that we wanted to see the waterfalls.

We came upon Alberta Falls and wandered all around, walking right up under it, over it and next to it.  There were a lot more people around the area than I expected but a few strangers were nice enough to take our picture while we walked around.  The waterfall was loud but had the most soothing sound and sent a little mist our way.  I never thought that I would be interested in hiking but I couldn't have been more wrong.  It is definitely worth the distance to see what you are able to.  I feel like I am on top of the world!

When we started to hike back down we saw a little chipmunk and of course I had to get his picture.  There were a lot of deer and such out at the time that we were leaving and I was surprised that we saw as much wildlife as we did.  Unfortunately, my camera died halfway through the hike, so much of my wildlife pictures I took with my phone and I put them on Facebook.

Now I am exhausted and about to go to bed because I have work veryyy early in the AM.  Love you all!
